New Partnership: Northwoods

Posted on Thursday, May, 20th, 2021

We are delighted to be partnering with the Northwoods Rewilding Network, an initiative of the rewilding charity Scotland: The Big Picture, which aims to create more nature-rich land across Scotland by helping land managers to undertake ecological restoration on their land.

Northwoods partners tend to own or manage medium-sized landholdings, anything from 50-1,000 acres in area. By coalescing around a formal network, the initiative aims to both increase the ecological connectivity of high-quality habitat in Scotland but also to provide Northwoods land managers with the support and visibility that comes from being part of a larger project with a clear, unifying vision.

Forest Carbon will be providing carbon services to the network, helping its members to fund woodland creation and peatland restoration on their land, where appropriate. We’re looking forward to getting stuck in, and helping Northwoods make the most of the carbon opportunities that the UK voluntary market provides.

Two illustrations showing some of the changes that the Northwoods members will be working to achieve, as they strive to create more 'nature-rich' landscapes across Scotland.
