Nii Kaniti Community Forest
The Nii Kaniti project in Peru is a vital conservation effort aimed at protecting community-owned rainforest and reducing deforestation. It supports indigenous-led forest management, FSC-certified timber extraction, and sustainable cacao agroforestry, creating economic value while conserving critical ecosystems.

Located in the Ucayali region of eastern Peru, the Nii Kaniti project spans 119,837 hectares of Amazon rainforest along the Ucayali River. This area is home to seven indigenous communities, who are among the largest stewards of forest land in Peru. The project empowers these communities to protect their land while creating sustainable economic opportunities, including FSC-certified timber production and cacao agroforestry.
By addressing the local economic drivers of deforestation, the project not only conserves critical rainforest habitat but also promotes social inclusion and economic resilience. It integrates conservation with indigenous-led development, ensuring the long-term viability of both the forest and the communities that depend on it.

With the potential to reduce over half a million tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year, Nii Kaniti is a powerful example of how people and nature can thrive together. Support this project to help protect one of the world's most important carbon stores and biodiversity hotspots.

Certified under the Verra Carbon Standard (VCS), the world’s most widely used carbon crediting program, endorsed by ICROA.
(T)ropical forests have a carbon sink roughly equal to half of what is in the atmosphere. About half of that is in the Amazon. This means to lose the Amazon would dramatically increase climate change.
