Envira Amazonia REDD+ Project
The Envira Amazonia REDD+ Project is a tropical forest conservation initiative in the State of Acre, Brazil, protecting over 39,000 hectares of Amazon rainforest.

The Envira Amazonia REDD+ Project is a tropical forest conservation initiative in the State of Acre, Brazil, protecting over 39,000 hectares of Amazon rainforest along the Envira River near Feijó. It operates under internationally recognised standards — including the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) Triple Gold certification — and is designed to avoid the release of significant quantities of greenhouse gases by preventing deforestation and forest degradation in a region under pressure from cattle ranching and infrastructure expansion. The project is expected to prevent more than 12.5 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions over its crediting period, contributing materially to climate change mitigation and supporting net-zero strategies.
Beyond its carbon impact, Envira delivers important environmental co-benefits by safeguarding one of the world’s richest biodiverse ecosystems — including habitat for endangered and endemic bird species and threatened tree taxa — and maintaining critical ecosystem services such as water quality, soil retention and local microclimate regulation.
On the social front, the project actively supports local communities through alternative livelihood programmes, agricultural extension training, land tenure security, and infrastructure improvements like health and dental clinics. It also fosters employment, strengthens community resilience, and helps develop sustainable economic activities such as cultivation and sale of medicinal plants and açaí, enhancing both economic opportunities and quality of life for families dependent on the forest.

Certified under the Verra Carbon Standard (VCS), the world’s most widely used carbon crediting program, endorsed by ICROA.
The Envira Amazonia REDD APD Project will generate GHG emission reductions by foregoing forest conversion to grassland in favor of conservation of the tropical forest (i.e., maintaining existing carbon stocks). The project will also mitigate deforestation pressures in the wider region using a combination of environmental programs and social programs intended to improve the livelihoods of community members living in the vicinity of the project area. Social projects and programs for the local communities will not only generate sustainable economic opportunities, but will also result in a reduction in deforestation in the region and the preservation of biodiversity
