Cathpair
Cathpair, located in the Scottish Borders, creates a diverse mixed commercial conifer and broadleaf woodland. The project was planted in 2021, it brings multiple benefits to the working livestock farm and to the wider public.

Cathpair will create over 31 ha of mixed conifer and broadleaf woodland, delivering lasting benefits for both the local community and the surrounding environment. These benefits include timber production, biodiversity enhancement, livestock shelter, improved water quality, and carbon sequestration.
The woodland has been designed to support income diversification through sustainable timber production, while also enhancing habitat connectivity and increasing local woodland cover. Its proximity to existing woodland makes it particularly valuable in linking fragmented habitats and improving overall landscape resilience.
The carbon benefits of the woodland are equally valuable. Over the next 100 years, the woodland is expected to sequester 6,291 tonnes of CO₂, according to calculations validated under the Woodland Carbon Code. Carbon finance was critical to making the project possible, enabling land use change that would not otherwise have occurred.
In addition to its environmental impact, Cathpair will provide social value through public access routes within the site. As the woodland matures, it will offer a natural space for the local community to explore, enjoy, and connect with nature.

This is a woodland with roots in the future. By supporting the project through carbon purchases, businesses and individuals can help protect biodiversity, tackle climate change, and invest in a thriving landscape for generations to come.

Certified under the Woodland Carbon Code, the UK’s government-backed standard for carbon-funded woodland creation.
