Meet the team

Our team may be small, but we bring decades of experience across carbon markets, land management, forestry, and related fields. Each person contributes unique expertise, and together we collaborate, share knowledge freely, and focus on getting things done.

Steve

Steve’s journey from headmaster in Zimbabwe to co-founding Forest Carbon began with an MBA and a dissertation on UK carbon markets. A key architect of the Woodland Carbon Code and adviser on the Peatland Code, he’s been instrumental in shaping how nature-based projects are funded and delivered across the UK.

James

With roots in farming and experience in agricultural trading, finance, and forestry, James helped pioneer UK carbon-funded woodland creation. Recognised for his impact, he received an Honorary Fellowship from the Institute of Chartered Foresters (2016) and an OBE (2023) for services to forestry and the environment.

George

Since joining Forest Carbon in 2016, George has worked with hundreds of land managers to certify woodland and peatland projects, and with businesses to fund UK nature restoration. A Chartered Surveyor, he brings 17 years’ experience in land investment and development with Savills and Knight Frank.

Eck

Eck joined Forest Carbon after roles in financial services and agriculture. A Newcastle University graduate in Agriculture and Farm Business Management, he spent five years in insurance before pursuing his passion for land regeneration, travelling widely to explore opportunities for land managers.

Sam

Sam joined Forest Carbon with experience in the international voluntary carbon market, helping corporates develop net zero strategies and finance global emissions reduction projects. He holds an MSc in Earth Sciences from Uppsala University, where he researched climate change, and interned at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris.

Michael

Michael joined Forest Carbon in 2023 from the geo-environmental sector. He holds an MSc in Environmental Management from the University of Stirling, where he focused on GIS and environmental data analysis. He has worked internationally as an environmental educator and ecologist, and has a passion for preserving our natural heritage.

Daniela

Daniela joined Forest Carbon in August 2023. She holds a law degree from the University of Edinburgh, where she focused her honours studies on Environmental and Human Rights Law. She is also Carbon Literacy certified and brings this expertise to the development and delivery of UK nature-based carbon projects.

Jordan

Jordan joined Forest Carbon in late summer 2025. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Wildlife and Conservation Management and a short course in Peatland Restoration and Assessment. Jordan previously worked as a Peatland Restoration Project Officer in East Ayrshire and will cover for Cara during her maternity leave.

Cara joined Forest Carbon in January 2025. She holds an MSc in Food Security from the University of Edinburgh, focusing on sustainable agriculture and nature-based solutions. She has experience in habitat restoration and endangered species monitoring, and is passionate about sustainable farming and restoring natural landscapes.
