Sponsor Nature+
Support UK nature projects that fall outside the carbon market. Handpicked, these small-scale initiatives restore habitats, boost biodiversity and benefit local communities, offering a positive story to engage stakeholders and a meaningful way to invest in nature without transacting carbon.
FAQs
What is ‘Nature+’?
Nature+ is a funding model we developed to help the UK make the most of its available land for nature restoration.
Across the UK, many small patches of land are ready to be revitalised with trees, flowers, mosses, insects, and more. Nature+ supports landowners with the costs involved, ensuring that no worthy project is held back due to funding constraints.
Key aspects of Nature+ include:
- Nature+ projects are not certified under the Woodland Carbon Code or Peatland Code. While we follow their principles to guide project design, these projects do not generate tradable carbon credits, so carbon compensation claims cannot be made.
- They focus on small, unproductive pockets of land across the UK that would otherwise remain unused.
They deliver important co-benefits such as flood mitigation, improved air quality, shelter for livestock, habitat creation, enhanced biodiversity, and better soil health.
Is Nature+ right for me/my business?
Nature+ projects offer businesses a chance to support practical, place-based environmental action. While typically smaller in scale, these projects are selected by Forest Carbon for their potential to deliver meaningful outcomes — from improving biodiversity and restoring natural habitats to enhancing water quality and community value. Their locally grounded stories make them especially engaging for stakeholder communications and ideal for businesses looking to make a tangible difference.
If you’re interested in sponsoring a Nature+ project, please get in touch via our contact form. A member of the Forest Carbon team will reach out shortly to answer any questions and guide you through this type of investment.
How does Forest Carbon ensure Nature+ projects are delivering as promised?
Quality assurance has been at the heart of Forest Carbon’s work for almost 20 years. No organisation wants to risk greenwashing, and we are focused on making sure the funding we raise delivers real, measurable impact. Drawing on our team’s combined 55 years of experience, we have developed practical guidelines to help ensure every Nature+ project meets its goals. These guidelines align with the principles of respected accreditation standards like the Woodland Carbon Code and Peatland Code. The key difference is that Forest Carbon carries out the site visits ourselves and covers the cost, so landowners are only responsible for maintaining their project, not for verification activities.
Site visits
Forest Carbon visits Nature+ projects during the establishment years to ensure proper management practices are followed and the correct actions have been carried out (e.g the right number of trees have been planted). If we find the project's development unsatisfactory, we will collaborate with the land manager to address the issue and get it back on track.
Collaboration with trusted partners
We know what it takes to create a nature project of the highest integrity. The most crucial factor is a dedicated and passionate team committed to excellence. Over the years, we have established an extensive network of farmers, tenants, land managers, and foresters, and we collaborate with those who have a proven track record of cultivating thriving ecosystems.
Incentivisation through staggered payments
In addition to partnering with individuals who understand the vision and are dedicated to maintaining high standards, we financially incentivise effective management by staggering payments. For example, in a woodland project, the initial payment will be made only after the planting is complete and proof is provided. A second payment may be issued following a successful site visit and survey in year 5, contingent on our ability to sell the sponsorship rights.
What claims will I be able to make if I sponsor a Nature+ project?
You can make sponsorship claims that highlight your support of nature restoration. For example: “We’ve funded a 4-hectare riparian woodland in the Scottish Borders, providing vital shade for freshwater pearl mussels and Atlantic salmon, while helping to reduce local flood risk.”
Your support plays a crucial role in enabling projects that wouldn’t otherwise go ahead. These woodlands are specifically selected by Forest Carbon for their strong biodiversity and community co-benefits.
Please note: Nature+ sponsorship does not generate carbon credits, so you cannot make carbon neutrality or net-zero claims based on this support.
Why aren’t Nature+ projects certified through one of the UK Codes?
Validation and ongoing verification under the Woodland Carbon Code and Peatland Code can be prohibitively expensive for smaller projects, with total costs often reaching several thousand pounds.
Because these are long-term standards, there is no certainty that future costs will remain stable. This is a concern for many land managers. Smaller projects are particularly affected, as lower income may be outweighed by the cost of repeated verification surveys.
Some land managers, especially farmers, are also cautious about selling their land’s carbon. Without backing from supply chain buyers, certification often becomes economically unviable.
To help get these projects off the ground and ensure more woodlands and peatlands are restored, we created Nature+. This scheme supports smaller, high-impact nature projects that might not otherwise proceed, creating real change across the UK’s landscape.
Forest Carbon are flexible, hands-on, and willing to find tailored solutions. We would definitely recommend them.

How we work
With 55 years in the industry between us, we know there’s no such thing as one size fits all. Every carbon purchase or nature investment is slightly different. However, this gives you a rough idea of what to expect from us after you get in touch.

Duich Moss
On the windswept Isle of Islay, Scotland, Duich Moss is a richly biodiverse, low-domed bog and internationally protected wetland. This ambitious peatland restoration project will rewet and repair a landscape once threatened by industrial peat extraction, helping to safeguard rare species and lock in thousands of tonnes of carbon.

Cùl Mòr
In the heart of the Scottish Highlands, the Cùl Mòr restoration project is helping to bring a landscape back to life. Restoring degraded peatland supports climate action, protects biodiversity, and strengthens a globally and nationally important ecosystem.

Bwlch y Groes
In Wales, along the border of Snowdonia National Park, a degraded stretch of upland bog is being brought back to life. The Bwlch y Groes project restored damaged peatland, helping to lock in carbon, restore biodiversity, and safeguard water quality in one of the country’s most ecologically important upland areas.
Sponsorship registry
Modelled on similar public registries, the Sponsorship Registry brings transparency and easy tracking to the projects we support through this initiative.
