Wychwood
Set within the stunning Upper Tweeddale National Scenic Area, Wychwood is a new native woodland that will boost biodiversity, improve water quality, and help reduce flood risk — all while enhancing one of Scotland’s most beautiful walking routes.

Located near Broughton in the Scottish Borders, Wychwood is a native broadleaf woodland designed to deliver wide-reaching environmental benefits. Planted within the floodplain of the upper River Tweed, the project will restore degraded grazing land into a thriving riparian habitat, one of the most important for supporting both land and aquatic wildlife.
As water moves through the landscape, newly planted trees will help stabilise soil, slow water flow, and reduce diffuse pollution from nearby farmland. These changes will improve water quality and reduce local flood risk, while supporting the health of the River Tweed Special Area of Conservation downstream.
Wychwood also enhances the popular Tweed Trail, bringing nature back into view for walkers and cyclists. The project forms part of Forest Carbon’s new tree sponsorship offering, designed to support smaller-scale woodlands that can’t afford or justify the cost of Woodland Carbon Code certification. This approach allows businesses and individuals to directly fund impactful woodland projects like Wychwood, creating a meaningful connection with the land and the people who steward it.
