FAQs

How does Forest Carbon ensure that the projects deliver emissions reductions?

All our woodland and peatland projects are certified under the Woodland Carbon Code & Peatland Code. These are UK specific standards that ensure each carbon credit generated represents a removal or avoidance of one tonne of CO2.

Under the WCC & PC projects are validated by a third party certification body, following completion of planting (woodlands) or restoration work (peatland), and verified on an ongoing basis.

The WCC & PC also ensure that each project meets the core principles of carbon offsetting – additionality, conservatism, and permanence. This means that each carbon credit represents a permanent removal of CO2e which would not have happened without the carbon finance.

What do I get when I buy carbon through Forest Carbon?

When you support our woodlands and peatlands, you can be certain that your investment has made a difference. We provide finance at the outset of projects, overcoming financial hurdles and providing liquidity to unlock nature based solutions.

Our projects are certified, validated and verified, under the Woodland Carbon Code & Peatland Cod and offering assurance that the projects are delivering positive, quantifiable, climate outcomes.

With 15 years’ experience in the field we’re also able to offer a smooth experience, with solutions tailored to your business needs.

How does the Forest Carbon offering differ from others?

We work closely with forest management businesses across the UK and make carbon finance accessible to a wide range of projects. Not only does this extend our reach to projects that most need carbon finance, but our varied project portfolio allows us to offer a bespoke service to businesses of all sizes.

We are also the only project developer that can currently offer carbon from peatland projects, validated under the Peatland Code.

Where our
projects are

Forest Carbon leads the way in developing woodland creation and peatland restoration projects for carbon capture and ecosystem services. Through the planting of over 9.5 million new trees in 200+ new woodlands in the UK since 2006 our partners’ projects are removing over 2.000,000 tonnes of CO2 from the global atmosphere, as well as providing a host of other benefits to society, including flood mitigation, river improvement and public access.

The quality of our schemes is assured by the UK government’s Woodland Carbon Code and the IUCN's Peatland Code, both of which certify our projects in important areas like additionality, permanence, risk management and carbon capture measurement.

Compensating for your unavoidable environmental impact by helping to create a new woodland or restore a degraded peatland is rewarding in many ways. Check out our project location map to see what we've done in different parts of the UK.
