Supporting global carbon projects
For a decade, we’ve helped businesses channel funding into carbon projects across the globe. These range from protecting forests along the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor to supporting smallholder‑managed sustainable timber production in Bolivia. On this page, you’ll find answers to common questions about our international projects, carbon credits, and how they help tackle climate change, restore nature, and deliver wider benefits for people and planet.
Around the world, forests, wetlands, and other critical ecosystems act as powerful carbon stores, capturing CO₂e from the atmosphere and locking it away for decades or centuries. But they do far more than store carbon. Healthy ecosystems provide habitat for wildlife, regulate water cycles, protect soils, improve air quality, and support the livelihoods of local and Indigenous communities. They are essential to climate stability, nature’s recovery, and human wellbeing.
Yet these landscapes are under immense pressure from deforestation, land conversion, and climate change. Without urgent action, many risk shifting from carbon sinks to carbon sources, accelerating the climate crisis.
Protecting and restoring ecosystems at scale is essential, and international carbon markets play a crucial role. Since the Kyoto Protocol in 1997, they’ve channelled billions in private finance into forest protection, reforestation, sustainable agriculture, and community‑led conservation.
While not without challenges, these markets remain one of the most effective tools for funding climate action and nature recovery. By supporting trusted projects worldwide, we help capture carbon, restore biodiversity, and create lasting benefits for communities on the front line of climate change.

FAQs
What is the average carbon credit price for international carbon?
The average price of a carbon credit can vary significantly and is not fixed, as shown in the graph below. Prices fluctuate based on a range of factors, a point illustrated by Dr Ying Liu, Financial Economist at the World Federation of Exchanges, in her article Price Dynamics in the Voluntary Carbon Market:
“Between 2017 and 2021, the [average] price of carbon credits fluctuated moderately around $2 to $4 per tCO₂e. At the beginning of 2022, the price increased sharply, peaking at around $11/tCO₂e. The rise in price could be attributed to the high demand for removal-based credits (World Bank, 2022). However, the price declining back to $4/tCO₂e by the middle of 2024. The initial decline of carbon price followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which caused a spike in energy prices and investors’ liquidation of carbon products. The EU carbon permit also experienced a dramatic price crash (The Guardian, 2022).”

What types of international carbon projects do you sell credits from?
We currently support three main types of international projects: ARR, REDD+, and Renewables.
- ARR (Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation) – These projects restore degraded land and expand forest cover. They are independently audited and certified under leading standards such as Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS).
- REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) – These projects protect threatened forests. The “+” indicates additional benefits, such as adopting sustainable land management practices or enhancing biodiversity.
- Renewables – This category covers projects like small-scale hydro and natural gas, which provide cost-effective, lower-carbon alternatives to fossil fuels.
All of these projects are certified under recognised, best-in-class standards, including Verra’s VCS, Gold Standard, and Plan Vivo, ensuring quality and integrity.
How do you verify that your projects are delivering real, tangible benefits?
In the UK, we often work directly with land managers, helping them to plan their woodland and peatland projects, to get them validated through the government-backed Woodland Carbon Code or Peatland Code (if they plan to sell their carbon), and to connect them with buyers. So, in addition to meeting standards set out by the Woodland Carbon Code and Peatland Code, they also carry the reassurance of our hands-on experience.
Unlike our UK projects, we do not have a direct hand in the development of the projects we retail from overseas. However, we ensure the projects are carefully selected and only work with trusted, long-standing partners. All international projects are certified under recognised high-quality standards, such as Plan Vivo, VCS (Verra) and Gold Standard, following and adhering to core principles to ensure the claims they’re making.
All project documentation, including PDDs, carbon calculations, and verification documents, is publicly available on their relevant registries.
We continually look to improve how we assess the projects we offer, including using third-party experts to carry out analysis, due diligence and vetting.
