Validated under the Woodland Carbon Code on 23rd February 2012 - project ID 2011/SC/0024
Kwik Fit enabled phase one of this project as part of their 'Go Green' car servicing option. The project involved the creation of 20 hectares of new woodland within a 23 hectare site, in order to offer its customers carbon capture as part of a 'green' car service. The planting was phased over 3 years (10 ha in 2009, 5 ha in 2010 and 5 ha in 2011.) The new woodland comprises primarily native broadleaf species, with the addition of some and hybrid Larch, Scots Pine and Sitka Spruce (which improves the diversity of the woodland and enhances the landscape value by blending the new woodland with the existing conifer woodland to the South of the site.)
The new woodland has 3 principle objectives:
1. To act as a carbon sink.
2.To improve the amenity and biodiversity of the local area, including extending woodland habitats from existing woodland to the north and south.
3. To facilitate a programme of educational activity with the nearby Denny High School. (The site will provide a venue for school children to carry out outdoor educational activities; the tree planting will provide a component of this programme.)
